The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time

This was the first album ever created by the Grateful Dead. It was played in San Francisco,CA. Since it was their first album nobody really knew about them, So nobody really knew about them. The Grateful Dead formed from elements of San Francisco's burgeoning underground music scene in the early 60's.

The Grateful Dead's fourth live album was optimistically labeled "Vol. 1" in hopes that Grateful Dead Records would issue future volumes (much like what "Dick's Picks" became). This album-recorded on Feb. 13 and 14, 1970, at the Fillmore East in New York City-eventually turned partly into a tribute to Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who'd left the group for medical reasons in 1972 and died in March 1973 as this album was being pulled together

The Grateful Dead have a large legacy of recorded work that only continues to grow - you've heard about that 73 CD 'Europe '72' box set, right? It's a lot to consider, so to celebrate the late great Jerry Garcia's birthday (Aug. 1), we decided to narrow it down to this list of the Top 10 Grateful Dead Albums: 10. 'Dylan And The Dead'. Two years after Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead teamed up for a stadium tour in 1987, this live album, 'Dylan And The Dead' was released, collecting performances from the tour. Not many people would have this album on a list of the top Grateful Dead albums. The heavenly cover art doesn't do a lot to sell the music on the album within, but the songs themselves are consistently solid.
