Material 12" vinyl single record (Maxi) Temporary Music 2 UK RS12. SEALED NEW CD Material - Temporary Music 1979-1981. This is a great album for Material and Bill Laswell fans to use for tracing the roots of their hero. Here his beginnings as a NYC punk with jazz/funk/dub tastes and caviar schemes are all very clear and fun to listen to. But, if this is all new to you and you are seeking the best that Material has to offer, then check out 1993's Hallucination Engine.
Okay, ready? Here goes: tracks one through four are the contents of Temporary Music 1, the first EP by Material, which then consisted of bassist Bill Laswell, keyboardist Michael Beinhorn, and a few of their downtown friends. Tracks five and six are both sides to an early single. Tracks seven through ten were originally released as Temporary Music 2, and tracks 11 and 12 were originally part of an EP entitled American Songs - the rest of the EP consisted of the two sides of that early single mentioned above.

Temporary Music is the 1979 debut EP and 1981 debut album by the New York based No Wave music group Material. The band had previously worked with Daevid Allen on New York Gong's 1979 About Time album. The Temporary Music 1 EP was recorded in 1979 and the Temporary Music 2 EP in 1980. The two EPs were compiled together for Material's debut album, two slightly different versions being released, one on Red Rec. which also included the "Discourse" single, and one on Celluloid which simply put each EP on either side of the album.
