BLXPLTN released their debut album, 'Black Cop Down,' on Oct. 14 - the same day their producer, Isiah 'Ikey' Owens, was found dead in Mexico. Yesterday was especially emotional for punk outfit BLXPLTN: They released their first full-length album, 'Black Cop Down,' but also learned their producer, Isiah 'Ikey' Owens, had been found dead in a Mexico hotel room. You can stream the album in its entirety below. In a statement released on behalf of the BLXPLTN, the band said Owens - who was on tour as a keyboardist for Jack White - was a mentor to the band, one of the producers on the album and he was the mastermind behind their single 'Stop & Frisk.
The Captain and Me is the third studio album by American rock band The Doobie Brothers. The album was released on March 2, 1973, by Warner Bros. It features some of their most popular hits including "Long Train Runnin'", "China Grove" and "Without You". The album is certified 2 Platinum by the RIAA. There was pressure on the band to move quickly and to save time they began reworking old tunes.
The note also says that the remaining shows of Jack White’s tour in Mexico have been cancelled out of respect for Owens. Consequence of Sound points out that the first to report the news was Mexico’s Periodico Digital. The cause of death has not yet been reported.
This album cover was the second collaboration between Prince and Allen Beaulieu. At 28 years old, Beaulieu was hired as Prince’s personal photographer and they preferred an aesthetic that went past sexy and to the edge of soft-core pornography. Controversy, however, is more cerebral than carnal. The headlines are explicit in a different way. There wasn’t much mystery when it came to Prince’s intentions with this album. It was a political take on timely issues including Abscam, an FBI sting operation from the early 80’s that went under investigation.
