Once is the fifth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, released on 7 June 2004 by Spinefarm Records and Nuclear Blast. It is the last album to feature Tarja Turunen on lead vocals. The album cost nearly €250,000 to make, (1,000,000 including the videos) which made it Finland's most expensive recording ever until the release of Nightwish's next album, Dark Passion Play, which cost over €500,000 to produce.

I don't know if it is because the album was recorded in one session, and under rushed circumstances as the liner notes indicate, but the music here is prime Coltrane Quartet. The untitled originals especially so. I am a huge fan of every period of Coltrane's music, but more so of his last music from 1965 til his death. Do not make the mistake of not getting the Deluxe version. It is another full album worth or remarkable takes on several of the songs, and the versions of "Impressions" on it might be better than on the album itself. It is worth every penny.
Two of the original songs are untitled, their melodic themes are perhaps a shade fuzzy, the band is vigorous but loose.

In an ideal case, both qualities are overrated anyway. This is an ideal case.
The Lost Album eavesdrops on a day in the short life of one of modern music’s giants in a period of turmoil. Coltrane is audibly striving to release himself from the shackles of traditional song structures here, despite still being drawn to their improv challenges, and simultaneously pursuing a more open, free-floating sound beyond song shapes and chords.
