The Specials is the debut album by British ska revival band The Specials. Released on 19 October 1979 on Jerry Dammers' 2 Tone label, the album is seen by some as the defining moment in the UK ska scene. Produced by Elvis Costello, the album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's "concrete jungle"-a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1972 album Catch a Fire but equally apposite used here to describe the grim, violent inner cities of 1970s Britain.

Thank you for making this a very Specials album.

The Singles Collection (The Specials album). The Singles Collection is a compilation album by The Specials. Track 10 presents only the first half of the pe Pt. 2" single from More Specials. Tracks 14 through 16 were originally recorded under the "Special AKA" name, which the band used following the split of the original lineup in 1981. Some pressings of the album are missing track 16.

Brilliant new album out!! such good music and good vibes. They got ever better over time Specials !!! Enjoy yourself! IT's later than you think!!!

It’s an unequivocal triumph on an album that mixes the great and the so-so, the former outweighing the latter enough to appease fans, if not, one suspects, ex-bandmates. And We Sell Hope’s title fits: while it plays, the Specials sound like a band with a future, not just an illustrious past. This week Alexis listened to. Working Men’s Club: Bad Blood There’s a real alchemy to how this Yorkshire trio take well-worn ingredients – the Fall, Gang of Four, NY punk-funk – and it turn it into something more than the sum of its parts.

When the Specials’ Jerry Dammers’ launched the 2 Tone label in Britain in 1979, his group was more than just a ska revival band with good taste in covers - they were a multi-racial spearhead of a post-punk movement combatting skinhead racism (fueled by far-right groups like the National Front) and the craven business-first classism of the Thatcher government. Now, with racist nationalism on the rise amidst the Brexit debacle, the Special’s third album - 38 years since the last one, More Specials - is well timed. As frontman Terry Hall puts it, the band remain horribly relevant.

The Specials debuted with the "Gangsters" single, which reached the . Soon after, hordes of bands and fans followed in the same tradition, and the movement reached full swing. Over the next several months, 2-Tone enjoyed hits by similar-sounding bands such as Madness, the (English) Beat, and the Selecter. Late in 1979, the band released its landmark debut album, The Specials, produced by Elvis Costello.

Might have to get this as my 2009 Chrysalis reissue is very noisy. Not a good repress job on that one.
Yep I got a noisy pressing also. A trip through the Okki Nokki didn't change a thing. Dirty.
Is Gangsters on this 2017 issue? I notice it's listed as B6 on discogs, but not on front of sleeve. Thanks.
Mine arrived today and it is an excellent pressing. Very quiet vinyl and the music sounds incredible. Now I think I will go listen to it one more time.
