Iron Angel is a speed metal band from Hamburg, Germany. Iron Angel first formed in 1980 as a school band called Metal Gods, taken from the Judas Priest song of the same name. In 1983, they renamed themselves Iron Angel, which was inspired by a novel about a spirit hunter. It consisted of vocalist Dirk Schröder, guitarists Peter Wittke and Sven Strüven, bassist Thorsten Lohmann and drummer Mike Matthes.

IRON ANGEL: The angel was made of iron. Not the best material for naturally flying objects, you know, but the desire to touch the sky was too strong to keep him in the safety of heaven, and as long as both his wings worked in perfect union, as long as they were as one, he could fly high and the sunrays were playing on his iron wings. But nothing is eternal. I think we are still remembered today because we were the first German Speed Metal band which played with a lot of power and speed.

Country of origin: Germany. Peter Wittke and Gunter Moritz, who had temporary replaced Lohmann on Iron Angel's Germany tour with King.

Cult demo tapes recorded by Angel Witch in 1978 & 1979, on various reel to reel recording devices across the attics and front rooms of their native South London. These recordings comprise the earliest, embryonic versions of tracks such as ‘White Witch’, ‘Baphomet’ & ‘Sorceress’ which would remain staples in the Angel Witch live cannon almost 40 years later, testament to the songwriting skills of, the then 18 year old, Kevin Heybourne
