About: Who Came First (with the Meher Baba Album songs). As a newbie Who fan in the late 1970's and approaching the "turning point" of 1982, there were three essential bootlegs which you "had" to have: Who's Zoo (for all the rare b sides and such), Fillmore East (live 1968 Who!) and The Genius Of Pete Townshend (demos for Who's Next and that unfinished album - what was it.

The Who‘s Pete Townshend will mark the 45th anniversary of his debut solo album, Who Came First, with an expansive reissue featuring eight unreleased tracks. The two-CD set arrives April 20th via UME. Among the previously unreleased songs are three cuts, Nothing Is Everything, There’s a Fortune In Those Hills and Meher Baba in Italy. Released in 1972, Who Came First found Townshend collecting tracks from two previously released, but rare, collaborative tribute albums to Baba, Happy Birthday and I Am. Townshend then fleshed out the record with a handful of demos from the Who’s unfinished rock opera, Lifehouse. Along with Townshend’s reissue of Who Came First, the Who will commemorate the 50th anniversary of a two-night stand at the Fillmore East with a double CD, Live at the Fillmore East 1968, also out April 20th.

Who Came First is the debut album by Pete Townshend, released in 1972. It includes demos from the abandoned concept album Lifehouse, part of which became Who's Next. The original release had a gatefold cover and included a poster with additional photos of Meher Baba from the Louis van Gasteren film Beyond Words. Remastering has been carried out by long term Pete Townshend and The Who collaborator Jon Astley, using original master tapes. CD1 consists of the original album as it was released, CD2 includes unreleased tracks, alternative versions of songs such as Parvardigar, Day Of Silence and live performances.

The original of Townshend’s Who Came First featured tracks from his private pressings of his tributes to the Indian spiritual master Meher Baba, ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘I Am’, plus demos from the unrealised concept album Lifehouse, part of which was developed for The Who’s classic Who’s Next album of 1971. Who Came First has been remastered for this release by Jon Astley, the longtime collaborator of both Pete Townshend and The Who.

adventure time
this is a fairly unique to australasia pressing of townsheds first solo album released in 1972, it states this was released in 1973 in this territory but since it also says polygram on the rear of the sleeve that leads me to belive more like late 1970s, regardless this is a beautiful laminated sleeve and townshends name appears in black block letters across the right hand top of the sleeve, UNIQUE to this market only............
