Yasunori Mitsuda is a noted composer well regarded in the video game industry, most famous for his work on Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. He is the founder of Procyon Studio, a versatile sound studio, and the Sleigh Bells/Procyon Studio publishing label. Yasunori Mitsuda went into the meeting and faced the company’s sound team, consisting of Nobuo Uematsu, Minoru Akao, Kenji Itoh and Hiroki Kikuta. The process, from Mitsuda-san’s perspective, went badly. He claimed he never played any of the company’s games, nor was he familiar with them, and that he considered this only a step forward toward his true dreams. The soundtrack was the second collaboration between Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda, after Chrono Trigger. According to Uematsu, Mitsuda worked so much on the soundtrack that he eventually had to be hospitalized. The soundtrack has a "mechanical" theme to its music, and incorporates both electronic and traditional instruments.
