Danzig is the debut album of the American heavy metal band Danzig, released in August, 1988. The album was the first release on producer Rick Rubin's new label Def American Recordings. Def American's successor, American Recordings reissued the album in the United States and United Kingdom in 1998. It remains the band's best-selling album having been certified Gold in the . in 1994, and has since been certified Platinum. Danzig promoted the album with a successful world tour in 1988–1989.

See how we ranked Glenn Danzig's Misfits, Samhain and Danzig albums from weakest to strongest. At the same time, Danzig has proven himself a complicated, oftentimes difficult character to comprehend; but, then, not too many artists were influenced in equal measures by the Ramones, Black Sabbath, Elvis Presley, and an impossibly vast catalog of obscure trash and horror movies. The latter greatly informed Danzig’s first group, seminal horror punks the Misfits, which struggled for years in the musical underground, known only to dedicated fans, before enjoying a belated renaissance when they were championed by celebrity fans Cliff Burton and James Hetfield of Metallica.

Moody, muscular and malevolent, the first Danzig album sounded like nothing else on the charts when it was released on August 30th, 1988. It didn't sound like anything in the metal world, either: At a time of peak hairspray and maximum shred, the debut release from Glenn Danzig's latest musical incarnation was all about sweaty blues and controlled menace, delivered with a demonic thrust that made all the pretty boys with electric toys sound even flimsier and more fatuous than they already were
