David and the light bulb factory he works at (where this song takes place) have been persistent themes in Fucked Up’s career. Here’s an excerpt from a 2007 interview with the band, where guitarist/lyricist Mike Haliechuk ( 10,000 Marbles ) describes his fictional connection to the character: STEREOGUM: How’d you get the current job ? 10,000 MARBLES: I got the job through my friend David. After the band started I needed a job that I could work hard while I was here, and then take time off to travel with Fucked Up. Working in a factory is the perfect thing because you.

On February 7, 2012, the band was listed as one of the acts to be featured during the Orion Music + More Festival.

Toronto’s Fucked Up possess quite a few barriers to entry. There’s the fitting yet unfit-for-print name, for starters. Then there are the band’s chaotic live shows, during which gargantuan frontman Damian Abraham - imagine the Neverending Story’s Rockbiter, only beardier - often bonks his noggin till it bleeds. Finally, there’s the music itself, a hardcore punk-indebted slurry of grunt-gargling vocals, serrated feedback squalls, and densely packed lyrics that cover everything from police brutality to metaphysical phenomena

Toronto hardcore outfit Fucked Up had one of the most critically successful albums of 2011 with the conceptual David Comes to Life, their first album to crack the charts in any way. On Saturday, playing to a packed audience at . s FYF Fest, a a two-day event that saw performances from Warpaint, Refused, M83, the Faint, Beirut and dozens more, Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham still seemed shocked anyone came to see his band. We’re in a band called Fucked Up, I’m 300 pounds and I’m bald and I scream. The surprise success of David Comes to Life has created many surreal moments for Abraham and his bandmates. We were brought to a lot of places we’d never been before, like award shows, the Juno Awards, being on tour with various bands, he says. When I saw The Year Punk Broke as a kid I thought, ‘I would love to be able to tour with Dave Grohl.

Fucked Up David Comes to Life. You can think of Canadian bomb squad Fucked Up as legal masterminds, finding one loophole after another in the draconian protocols of hardcore punk: You never said we couldn't write a metafictional rock opera. You never said we couldn't overdub Rubber Soul -type twelve-string lead guitar. You never said we couldn 't use extra voices that sing harmonies instead of screaming. Named after a song that's been in their repertoire for years, David's conceptual hyper-abundance spills over beyond the album itself to the delightful David's Town LP (a compilation of "early-80s British . bands" in various modes, all of whom are Fucked Up themselves) and a string of related singles (in the course of which they. smash David's fourth wall).

Fucked Up - A Little Death - David Comes To Life.

Fucked Up - David Comes to Life. You've got to love bands with ambition. Toronto's Fucked Up are know for - well, they're known for calling themselves Fucked Up, but there's a lot more to this band than the attention-seeking title. You might call them a hardcore band, as long as your definition of "hardcore" falls somewhere between Black Flag and Hüsker Dü. On David Comes to Life what they're actually evocative of is Britain's best punk of the 70's and 80's married with the grand scope of arena-rock concept albums like The Who's Tommy. The album's biggest victory is it's ability to pair it's darkest moments thematically with it's most brilliant and uplifting songs. On the track "Turn the Season" Veronica dies, but you've got this guitar lick that swings up and down the fretboard and up-tempo, almost grooving drums. The album's standout, "A Little Death" does this best.
