What impresses is not just the wordplay and delivery, but the music itself - fuller, richer than anything on his previous records, appropriately cinematic in scope and pushing Eminem toward new heights. The opening track and first single "Lose Yourself" is easily equaled by the title song with its layered pianos, while "Rabbit Run" is nearly as good. Hearing these, it's hard not to greedily hunger for a full album of this, but the soundtrack is excellent as is and these new Eminem cuts make it a necessary purchase.
"Canadian album certifications – Various Artists – 8 Mile" Music Canada. a b "Soundtrack" in Finnish Musiikkituottajat – IFPI Finland. "French album certifications – Eminem – BOF 8 Mile" in French Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique.
Eminem‘s urgent radio hit ‘Lose Yourself’, you already know. It’s excellent, if obviously an offcut from ‘The Eminem Show’, all thundering rawk guitars and Rocky-ish bassline (appropriately enough). The two other new Eminem tracks ‘8 Mile’ and ‘Rabbit Run’ are on the money, too, the latter being the shortest, shoutiest thing he’s ever done. Elsewhere, things get more patchy. Oh, and the second certainty? That is the first album to include the lyric I cook up the hot shit like Ainsley Harriott.
The album was released under Shady Records, and spawned the hit single Lose Yourself. It also spawned a follow up soundtrack, More Music from 8 Mile, consisting of songs that appear in 8 Mile, that were released as singles during the film’s time setting of 1995. One of the songs was performed by 2Pac, who would be the subject of a documentary with a soundtrack produced by Eminem, who also produced a posthumous album by ‘Pac. Lose Yourself is the theme song from Eminem’s semi-biographical movie 8 Mile.
