Due to the recording being switched from Paris to London and clashes of dates, about a third of the opera was recorded by the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Decca Classical, 1929-2009". Bizet: Carmen Complete Opera ; Mirella Freni; Jon Vickers; Grace Bumbry. recording callas spoken paskalis dialogue french jose performance singers recordings kostas micaela singing voice famous conducting hear actors dramatic score. Jon Vickers' performance of the Flower Song is a resourceful, imaginative example of his artistry, but most of the rest of his performance sounds uncomfortable. Escamillio is a cipher, Micaela is an Italian opera star, Bumbry is ok. Having actors speak the dialogue is dramatically awkward.

Kostas Paskalis (1 September 1929, Levadeia - 9 February 2007, Athens) was a Greek opera singer, one of the leading baritones of the 1960s and 1970s in Europe, particularly associated with the Italian repertory. Paskalis studied piano before turning to vocal studies at the Athens Music Conservatory. He sang in the chorus of the Athens Opera, before making his solo debut there, as Rigoletto, in 1951. The Complete Opera on Two CDs featuring Grace Bumbry, Jon Vickers, and Mirella Freni. The Black Dog Opera Library is the best, easiest and most informative and budget-friendly way to enjoy four of the greatest operas of all time  . Carmen features Grace Bumbry, Jon Vickers, Mirella Freni, and Kostas Paskalis, with Rafael Fru¿beck de Burgos conducting the Orchestra of the Théâtre National de l’Opéra.

Freni is beautiful, Paskalis dull and although Vickers has his moments this set is a disappointment. Attachment 109665 The famous Cluytens recording is everything that the de Burgos is not. My first thoughts on hearing it were that Cluytens was rushing through the score at breakneck speed. Carmen is a bipolar work, one moment it is lighthearted operetta, the next it wallows in its ominous fate theme.
