It is the follow up to her critically acclaimed debut studio album, The ArchAndroid, and likewise, received universal acclaim from music critics. Musically, The Electric Lady incorporates influences of hip hop soul, funk, gospel, jazz and rock.

Country: US. Released: 10 Sep 2013. Genre: Hip Hop, Rock, Funk, Soul, Pop.

This Electric Lady, even with guest vocalists like Erykah Badu and Prince at her helm, thrives on style over substance. To offer another perspective: This is my first Janelle Monáe CD, so I don’t know anything about her character Cindi Mayweather. When I burned my purchased download to CD, I left off the few, short DJ interludes because I personally didn’t want to break the flow of the music

Janelle Monáe's second album is looser and more physical than her 2010 debut ArchAndroid. Janelle Monáe's second album is looser and more physical than her 2010 debut ArchAndroid.

According to Monáe, The Electric Lady provides the next chapter in the Cindi Mayweather odyssey. It’s the origin story, the part where the ArchAndroid realizes she has superpowers, she tells Rolling Stone. That Monáe dives into Public Enemy-style raps at times heightens the raised-fist social consciousness of Electric Lady‘s vibe. I want to redefine beauty and goals for young women, she says. The Electric Lady demonstrates many of Monáe’s different dimensions as well. For all its radical syncopation, sloganeering and revolution-speak, Monáe’s latest also finds her at her most approachable. Primetime sounds like a potential radio hit, while Monáe lets her hair down, literally, in the Clockwork Orange-themed video for Dance Apocalyptic (not to mention wearing body-conscious clothes and bling). I won’t become a slave to my own belief system, or my image, or how I have my hair, she says.

so much love. already excited for suites 6 & 7. hopefully an end in sight? can't wait for everything to come together in a beautiful climax.
Was looking forward for the next Suite in Dirty Computer if these two empty circles were actually maintained... It kind of remains an empty gesture :( (four* circles btw)
Sure you noticed how she slipped in an extra two movements on this release. Five circles suddenly went to seven. Fine by me.
