Hasil Adkins is a backwoods surrealist from rural West Virginia who spent most of the '50s, '60s, and '70s bashing ultra-crude rockabilly into an ancient reel-to-reel tape deck, one-man-band style (no overdubbing allowed - Adkins keeps the beat with bass drum pedals while laying down the melody on guitar and howling his lyrics in.

Album · 1986 · 20 Songs. The story goes that as a little boy-the youngest of 10 in a family of coal miners from Boone County, . Hasil Adkins heard Hank Williams and mimicked his songs under the assumption that music was played by a single person. Although only a few of his one-man-band recordings came out on 45s, he sent his demos everywhere (including to President Nixon, who replied with a perfunctory letter of gratitude). It's improbable that Nixon ever listened to She Said, the crazed.

This is the Holy Grail of Psychobilly, the rawest and truest and most honest songs from a man who lived a totally psycho-hillbilly life, and put it to music. Nothing can come close to this collection of songs about a man singin', playin', and stompin' out experiences in his life in a musical form. NOTHING - not in any genre of expression of life in music in existence. Not just roll over Beethoven, roll over every motherfucker who ever sang a word or played a note. Now just go get this and let it have it's place as the Crown Jewel of your otherwise measly collection of music.
