The cover of Breaks It Down seems like an homage to the past of blues albums, and delightfully, the same could be said of the album itself. But the good Reverend's release is no relic. It sounds as fresh as something that could have been released this morning. The best news of Breaks It Down is how truly spiritual it sounds - without getting preachy. Brian Holden - Drivin'. Drivin' makes no attempt to reinvent the wheel. It's a straight-ahead blues album that rocks hard enough for fans of rock and roll. The standout tracks are 'I Been Waiting' and 'Smokin' Ho. To be sure, there are more gifted singers in the blues world than Holden, but his imperfect voice has its charm and by the album's end, it has grown on the listener like a raggedy pair of slippers.
It's this lyrical and musical contrast that shows Maroon 5's expertise, a reminder that no matter the change in sound, they can still produce profound sounds. And when it comes to the lyrical content, Maroon 5 has remained prolific in their various portrayals of relationship talk, whether it’s through metaphors ( All you gave me was a plastic rose ) or punchy opening lines ("Are we taking time or a time out?/ I can't take the in between"). Anyone still hoping for another Songs About Jane-esque album from Maroon 5 should give Red Pill Blues a few listens. Red Pill Blues feels like a culmination of the group's triumphant debut and the masterful hook-making abilities they've displayed since, ultimately indicating that while the 2002 Maroon 5 is great, the 2017 Maroon 5 is legendary.

Red Pill Blues is the sixth studio album by American pop rock band Maroon 5. It was released on November 3, 2017, by 222 Records and Interscope Records. This is the band's first release to feature t Sam Farrar as an official member after he become a touring member in 2012. The title of the album refers to the science fiction term of taking the red pill or the blue pill, which originated from the 1999 sci-fi film The Matrix
Now we get to hear some of it with vocals and it's essentially nothing like what I thought it was going to be. This reminds me of stuff like King Dude and Johnny Cash more than anything, and who knew Nergal had such a low, haunting voice? I mean, the guy's done a little clean-ish vocal work on Behemoth material in the past, but I've always just assumed he was either doing a voice for those parts or had some effects dumped onto the track
It’s a masterful blues rock workout. All it lacks are some decent melodies to go with the songs. 28. Taste - On The Boards (Polydor, 1970). Unwisely hyped as the new Cream (they even supported them at the farewell Royal Albert Hall shows) just because they were a trio, Taste, featuring a youthful Rory Gallagher, had their own ideas and breathed fresh into the already hackneyed heavy blues scene. On The Boards, their second album, adds some jazz influences, particularly when Gallagher plays a saxophone solo on It’s Happened Before, It’ll Happen Again
