London 0 Hull 4 is the debut album by The Housemartins, released in 1986. It contains the singles "Flag Day" ( UK), "Sheep" ( UK), "Happy Hour" ( UK) and "Think for a Minute" ( UK). The title refers to the band's home town of Kingston upon Hull and is in the format of a football score. It also refers to Paul Heaton's assertion that the Housemartins were only the fourth best band in Hull. In other words, Hull had four great bands, compared to none from London

Happy Hour (The Housemartins song). Happy Hour" is a 1986 single by British indie rock band The Housemartins. It was the third single from the album London 0 Hull 4 and reached number three in the UK Singles Chart. Paul had been working on the lyrics for some time before, with the song originally being called 'French England'. It was completed on Wednesday 22 January 1986 - the same day Me and the Farmer was penned.

The Housemartins 1986 album, London 0 Hull 4, is 6 Music's Classic Album of the Day. In an interview first broadcast in 2014, Paul Heaton brings along his diary to help remember the makings of a debut LP, which remains relevant over thirty years later. Paul remembers busking with Stan Cullimore in Hull and playing at the bottom of the bill in the city's smaller venues, before John Peel played their demo, and they signed a record contract live on stage at The Adelphi.

London 0 Hull 4 is a varied, tuneful and captivating listen which is as equally enthralling musically as it is thought-provoking lyrically. While you may not necessarily agree with Heaton's leftist views, at the very worst this album will cause you to consider what you believe in and at best encourage you to actively develop your own personal ideology. Or you can close your left-brain for the night and just enjoy the music. London 0 Hull 4 is not an essential album, and not even the best in the Housemartins' slim catalogue (that honour falls to the 1988's post-split compilation.
