Northern Lights are visible in Iceland for about eights months a year, from the early September to late April. However, the sheer fact that it is possible to see Northern Lights in this eight-month period doesn’t mean that they’re always visible. If only it was that easy! If we focus only on the statistics, there are four months where the Northern Lights are most active. Two in the fall and two in the spring. The first thing you need to ensure you’ll be able to see Northern Lights is darkness. Hence, winter is always considered the best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland. Contradictory to common belief, the Northern Lights are always active, even though they’re not visible to the naked eye. During the summer, they are obscured by the brightness of the sun!

The Aurora Zone is THE original Northern Lights holiday company. We have built up an extensive range of trusted and knowledgeable Aurora guides, photographers and experts throughout Northern Scandinavia and combined with our 6-point Aurora hunting plan, we are quite simply your best chance for seeing the Northern Lights. It’s probably worth mentioning that the last two autumns have given us some absolutely stunning Northern Lights and 2014 caused one of the very best guides in the business to describe it as the best in my lifetime.

In this period of time, no Northern Lights can be observed. The Northern Lights season is from late August to mid-April. However, from late September to late March, it is dark after 6 pm, and one enjoys maximum chances. On a yearly basis, the Lights are at their peak in September and March. The reasons for this trend are due to the March and September equinox. In the longer term, auroral displays are correlated with an 11-year cycle in sunspot activity and other perturbations of the sun; the more restless the sun, the more aurorae.

Today marks the release of Zeds Dead’s debut album, Northern Lights, a collection of 15 tracks that will represent Zeds Dead today and forever more. It’s been a long time since White Satin, and their sound has changed a lot in the past 5 years, but never at an elementary level. Between all the EPs and singles and remixes, Zeds Dead have one of the most consistent track records in dance music, putting out one incredible track after another and all with a signature sound – and all of that without becoming repetitive.

Northern Lights - Southern Cross is The Band's shortest album, and it's always over too soon. This one definitely ranks pretty high up there for me as one of their top albums-worlds better than Cahoots and with moments that transcend a lot of their other material. It's such a pity they had to quit making music when their last album was this great. Most of the time, the bonus material doesn't rate more than one listen. If you already have a CD, and it was produced after the labels realized cranking the treble isn't "hi-fi," replacing it might not get you better sound. Postscript: I picked up the 2008 Japanese release of "Northern Lights Southern Cross," and it's better than the 2001 remaster, but even with more neutral mastering it's not the most transparent recording.
