Per Daryl Hall –. John had written a prototype of Maneater ; he was banging it around with Edgar Winter. It was like a reggae song. I said, Well, the chords are interesting, but I think we should change the groove. Per John Oates: Maneater is about NYC in the ’80s. It’s about greed, avarice, and spoiled riches. H2O – the album on which this track appears – had two other top hits: One on One and Family Man. Who plays in the Backing band? . Maneater" Track Info. Written By John Oates, Daryl Hall & Sara Allen. Bass Guitar Tom T-Bone Wolk. Release Date October 31, 1982.
It's pretty obvious that Daryl Hall and John Oates were in their heyday in the early 80's. Five number ones spanning 1980 to 1985 and nine ADDITIONAL top ten hits spanning the entirety of the 80's. Not bad. And as much as I of course love every hit, the album music from the early 80's (especially from PRIVATE EYES and H2O) is sometimes even more interesting and just as good (if not better!)
