Philip Pickett and the New London Consort hit typically entertaining form in this enjoyable selection of consort music. Right from the start, when in bowls an irresistibly artful version of Now is the month of maying, you know that whatever you're going to get here, it won't be dull. As often with Pickett, the way instruments are used is central to his approach. Although he himself is responsible for many of the arrangements here, his starting-point is the so-called consort of six-treble and bass viols, cittern, bandora, lute and flute. Thomas Morley Composer. Catherine Bott (sop). Michael George (bass). Philip Pickett Conductor. The First Booke of) Ayres or Little Short Songs, It was a lover and his lasse.
