How We Operate strips back the majority of the experimental nature of the band's sound, and instead focuses on acoustic folk-rock. The band is no longer interested in building a better wheel, seemingly content to follow the path blazed by bands before them; resulting in a consistently mesmerizing album that will not alter your sonic perception, but will not disappoint either. Moving towards a more country sound than the experimental bluesy tones of previous efforts, the flowing "Notice" serves as a strong opener to the album. Produced by Gil Norton and recorded in London, the album is a deft collection of well-molded pop songs that sound of a piece. They're full of ingenious little hooks, fine singing, poetics and to-the-point lyrics, and cool guitars.
