Night and Day" is a song written by Roxanne Seeman and Billie Hughes. Seeman and Hughes recorded a demo of the song performed by Billie Hughes. Seeman took the song demo to New York and dropped it off with a letter for Tunc Erim, A&R at Atlantic Records. A week later, Tunc Erim invited Seeman to lunch where he told her that Ahmet Ertegun and Doug Morris liked the song and wanted to show it to Mike Rutherford of Mike + The Mechanics.

Night And Day - Joe Jackson's Original Demos. 2-1. Steppin' Out. 4:14. Original album released in 1982. Recorded at Blue Rock Studio, Soho, New York City, Spring 1982.
Kirk Hammett, at ease in the lounge of the New York City recording studio where he and the rest of Metallica are rushing to finish their sixth album, Load, is acutely aware of how much the musical climate has changed in the five years since the band put out their last studio recording. Here's an interview with Metallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett from the July 1996 issue of Guitar World. They can't just take you for who you ar. uckily for us, success wasn't a night and day thing. We had taken a few steps on our way up, so we were able to handle it mentally. No one in Metallica ended up shooting himself or shooting up, or whatever it is people sometimes feel the need to do in these situations. You see it every fuckin' day in this weird-ass business. I mean, everyone has their little things that they need to do to release pressure.
Both had been genre-hopping prior to 1982, but Jackson's Night and Day and Costello's Imperial Bedroom announced to the world that both were "serious songwriters," standing far apart from the clamoring punkers and silly new wavers
