Listen to music from Bedřich Smetana like Má vlast (My Country): No. 2, Vltava, Má Vlast, JB1:112: 2. Vltava & more. Find the latest tracks, albums, and images from Bedřich Smetana. Bedřich Smetana (2 March 1824 - 12 May 1884) was a Czech composer, one of his nation's most significant. He is best known for his symphonic poem Vltava - Die Moldau, the second in a cycle of six which he entitled Má vlast ("My Homeland"), and for his opera Prodaná nevěsta ("The Bartered Bride"). Smetana was the son of a brewer in Litomyšl in Bohemia.

While it is often presented as a single work in six movements and – with the exception of Vltava – is almost always recorded that way, the six pieces were conceived as individual works

This album has an average beat per minute of 82 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 73/100 BPM). 1. Ma vlast (My Fatherland): No. Vysehrad. Recent albums by Bedřich Smetana. Janáček: String Quartets nos. 1 & 2, Smetana: String Quartet no. 1 "From My Life". Smetana: Piano Trio, op. 15, Tschaikowsky: Piano Trio, op. 50. 2008.

Released November 5, 1882. Considered the ultimate expression of Smetana’s Czech musical nationalism, the set is now played every May (on the anniversary of Smetana’s death) to open the Prague Spring International Music Festival. Writers Bedřich Smetana. More Bedřich Smetana albums.

Smetana's crowning achievement as the father of the Czech Nationalist music movement is his six-movement Má Vlast (My Fatherland). It incorporates not only musical traditions of the Czech people, but also pastoral scenes and even history. It's a little peculiar to have the embodiment of Czech Nationalist music performed by a Japanese orchestra led by a German conductor. In general, though, the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra under Uwe Mund offer a fairly convincing and stylistically appropriate interpretation of Má Vlast
