Mind over Matter (Young the Giant album). Mind Over Matter is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Young the Giant. It was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and released on January 21, 2014 through Fueled by Ramen.

On October 28, 2013, Young the Giant released "It's About Time", the lead single from the band's second album, Mind over Matter. On December 9, 2013, Young the Giant also released "Crystallized", another single from the band's second album. The album was released on January 21, 2014 via Fueled by Ramen. The New York Times called the album "a sharp, electric album that has the cool reserve of the Cure matched with the arena mind-set of, say, Muse (though without that group’s mechanical air). Following the release of their second album, the group released another set of videos for their In the Open series on YouTube.

Unfortunately, the album’s latter half is a little more hit and miss, with everything being competent enough in isolation, but arguably unengaging when amassed together.

When they nail the postmodern smash-up thing, it’s explosive, inventive rock: Anagram sounds like Dirty Projectors headlining the Bamboozle Festival, and It’s About Time marries Foo Fighter fuzz, Justin Timberlake croon, EDM sputter and spiraling high-life guitars. The flip side is tracks like the limp Tears for Fears rewrite Camera. In This Article: Young The Giant.

Mind Over Matter, then, is the story of Young the Giant’s journey to understanding this pressure as an obstacle to their progression as a band. Rather than overcoming it, the band quite literally put mind over matter and simply sought to understand it as part of their story. Sameer further explained the concept in another interview with Rolling Stone: The idea of Mind Over Matter could be many different things, but for us it was a little mantra of trying to get past these certain obstacles that one makes three-dimensional, but which are actually a figment of our own imagination

For their highly anticipated second album Mind Over Matter, Young The Giant enlisted Grammy nominated producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen, known for his work with such diverse artists as Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, and M83. Featuring the electrifying lead single "It's About Time," the collection of songs finds the young band challenging themselves both lyrically and musically.

Meldal-Johnsen’s subtle, densely textured aesthetic is ideal for the expansive, guitar-driven rock on Mind Over Matter. While the majority of the album is filled with hard-driving anthems and shout-along choruses ( Crystalized, Anagram, It’s About Time ), the band also incorporate textures of jazz, darkwave, and electropop to offer a riveting and unpredictable ride

On their hotly anticipated sophomore album, Mind Over Matter, Orange County modern rockers Young the Giant skate even closer toward the big-budget glitz their 2011 debut promised. Propelled by the success of their breakout hit, "Cough Syrup," they've made the jump to Warner subsidiary Fueled by Ramen, home to acts like Panic! At the Disco and Paramore, a seemingly more relatable roster than at their former home, the metal-centric Roadrunner Records.

Does Anyone else notice the static and popping on this pressing?
I notice it primarily on Firelight, which is a shame because that song is very quiet and pretty. The static makes it hard to enjoy the brushed snare drum.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
So I just bought a copy today. My side B which is what I tried to listen for, didn't seem to have any static or popping. Although, this is roughly a year later so maybe this press was different.
