The Desert Rose Band was an American country rock band from California, founded in 1985 by Chris Hillman (formerly of The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers), and Herb Pedersen and John Jorgenson. Also in the original lineup were Bill Bryson (bass guitar), Jay Dee Maness (pedal steel guitar), and Steve Duncan (drums). Herb sang the high tenor part above Chris' tenor and each Desert Rose Band album featured Herb on one lead vocal.

It was the second time Hillman and Pedersen recorded "Ashes of Love," the first being on Hillman's just prior album Desert Rose on the Sugar Hill label

In a July 1993 press release for the Life Goes On album by McMullen & Company (Public Relations), the article stated "The first single off the album "What About Love" is due in stores and ships to radio on July 2. The single had a special campaign for its release, aimed at gaining radio play. In the Billboard Magazine issue of August 14, 1993, the magazine spoke of the campaign in an article based on the band's Life Goes On album
