Album: The Hits 1. From Prince Vault. In conjunction with The Hits 2, the album contains most of Prince's most well-known songs from 13 studio albums, released originally between 1978 and 1993 (Batman being the only album not represented). With the exception of Soft And Wet, the more explicit material was saved for The Hits 2 to avoid a "Parental Advisory" label on The Hits 1. The album also contained two songs which were d by Prince: Nothing Compares 2 U (which had initially been released by The Family, but was made famous worldwide by Irish singer Sinead O'Connor) and Pink Cashmere.
This is the "greatest hits" album we've been waiting for: all of Prince's biggest hits packed onto one disc. Arguably the most influential artist of the '80s, Prince is one of the very few musicians of this or any other era to find a massive and intensely loyal audience while still being praised by critics and musical contemporaries alike for his bold experimentalism and prodigious instrumental skills.
Another Prince set hits the top 10, as his triple album The Hits/The B-Sides re-enters at No. 6 with 41,000 units (up 8,203 percent), with 24,000 of that sum in album sales (up 10,351 percent). The album originally debuted and peaked at No. 19 on Oct. 2, 1993. The three titles are also the Nos. 1, 2 and 7 selling albums of the week, as reflected on the Top Album Sales chart (which tallies the week’s best selling albums). Incredibly, in the week ending April 21, Prince’s overall catalog of albums sold 256,000 copies - an increase of 5,298 percent compared to the previous week (5,000).
Prince - The Hits 2 - CD (1993) Soul Funk. It was an album complete with slick early-90s production, raps and catchy hits that just begged for erotic film clips. While a similar production style would be taken further on albums like Michael Jackson’s monster-selling ‘Dangerous’ later the same year, Prince was always more eclectic.
A 15-track album featuring 14 previously unreleased recordings that illuminate the vital role Prince played in other artists’ careers, Originals includes Prince's foundational recordings of hit songs like "Manic Monday," "The Glamorous Life," "Jungle Love," and more. Prince led the way, for artistic freedom, for ownership. He’s one of the bravest people I can think of in the industry," Jay-Z told the New York Times
The latest album to escape out of Prince's fortress-like vault is a collection of greatest hits. The quirk is that none of these songs were hits for him. No. Instead, this compilation consists of the demos or guide tracks Prince recorded of songs he wrote for other artists to top the charts with
