ARTIFACTS by Steve Roach, released 01 June 1994 1. Groundswell 2. Thunder Brother 3. The Origin Of Artifacts 4. Your Own Eyes 5. Ancestral Horizon 6. Temple Of The Frog 7. Begin Where I End ARTIFACTS continues Roach¹s exploration of worlds simultaneously ancient, mystic and subconscious. Picking up where ORIGINS left off, Roach conjures up stirring, metaphysical sounds and deeply invasive events from his electro-acoustic arsenal. Portis This is one of the first Steve Roach releases that I've ever heard; more than 20 years ago. It is the pinnacle for me for ambient music. Your Own Eyes' is a spectacular track, but 'Begin Where I End' stirs my soul and is probably the most important piece of music that I have ever heard.
His album roster from that decade includes: Strata (1990), Artifacts (1994), Well Of Souls (1995), Amplexus: Collected Works From The 1995 Ltd Series (1997), and Dust To Dust (1998). Early Man was released on Projekt in early 2001, followed by one of his many collaborations with Vidna Obmana. He received his second Grammy nomination with 2018’s Molecules Of Motion album.

Steve Roach once again pushes the boundries of musical expression on Artifacts. After 15 years and 24 solo and group releases, Roach continues to defy current musical trends with his progressive electronic, new age, world, techno-tribal, and ambient blend. This new release explores his growing ability with instruments such as didgeridoos, framedrums, dumbek, rainsticks, ocarina, and clay flutes and displays a level of electronic artistry that is approaching legendary.
Should be considered the second disc of ORIGINS. Recently unearthed: seven artifacts, 77 minutes, and several thousand years old, from now. This is at the deep core of Roach's Tribal-Ambient phase. more searing than soothing.
