Guaguanco De Puerto Rico. Liner Notes – DJ Timber. Marketplace 0 10 For Sale from €2. 1.

Brooklyn Sounds - "Guaguanco De Puerto Rico" (3:45). In the same vein as the infamous Honest Jon's complications from London, Spain's Rocafort imprint heads into the underbelly of Latin funk from New York City in the years between 1967 and 1978. There is much heavenly music to be found in this tiny corner of time and space, a cultural pocket that surely led to the future proliferation of salsa internationally.

No New York is a compilation album released in 1978 by record label Antilles under the curation of producer Brian Eno. Although it only contained songs by four different artists, it is considered by many to be the definitive single album documenting New York City's late-1970s no wave movement. Early in 1978, New York's Artists' Space hosted an underground rock festival with several local bands.

Latin Underground Revolution: Swinging Boogaloo, Guaguanco, Salsa & Latin Funk from New York City 1967-1978 triple 7 box set! An energetic, eclectic & exciting mix of hard to find dance floor delights showcasing three different eras of latin music in NYC featuring liner notes by yours truly erlovesrecords The third 7 in the set features my two favourite tunes Mirame San Miguel & Guaguanco De Puerto Rico by the much sought after Brooklyn Sounds. We went up to the studio, turned on the lights and recording equipment and recorded the album. By 7am, we put everything back in place and exited the studio. I then played the recording for Maisonave, telling him that it was an entirely different band, and he loved it.

Soul Jazz provided the even more extensive (and less disco-flavored) New York Noise, 1979-1982 and last year No More Records' popped-up to offer the definitive 32-track DNA on DNA, which includes all of the DNA tracks from No New York. Ditto for Mars' The Complete Studio Recordings: NYC 1977-1978, out on G3G/Spooky Sound in 2003. No Wave itself sprung up namelessly circa 1977 as a reaction to punk, new wave, and New York City itself. One of No Wave's more outspoken progenitors, Lydia Lunch famously dissed punk as no more than "sped-up Chuck Berry riffs"

Guaguancó is a sub-genre of Cuban rumba, a highly complex rhythmic music and dance style. The traditional line-up consists of: three conga drum parts, namely the tumbadora (lowest), tres-dos (middle, playing a cross-clave counter rhythm), and quinto (highest, solo drum). It became distinct from other forms of rumba, such as yambu and columbia, in the mid-1800s. Usually danced by a male-female couple, it represents a flirtatious, sexual game and includes a distinctive body movement called vacunao (pelvic thrust) performed by the male dancer (also found in other African-based dances from Latin America). Remnants of guaguanco are evident in the hip and pelvic motions of modern salsa dancers, and references to guaguanco are often made in the lyrics.

Although fans may have had high expectations for the first album recorded by Celia Cruz after she moved to one of the top labels in Latin music (Tico), Son con Guaguanco doesn't disappoint in the least.

Guaguancó (Spanish pronunciation: ) is a subgenre of Cuban rumba, combining percussion, voices, and dance. There are two main styles: Havana and Matanzas.
