Album · 2007 · 13 Songs. The world’s most original cover band, The Detroit Cobras have spent 11 years perfecting their signature blend of garage rock and old-fashioned soul. hasn’t changed this time around: re-record great R&B obscurities using amped-up, fuzzed-out guitars in place of piano or brass, speed up the beat to a rollicking stomp, and crown the whole with Rachel Nagy’s sultry, lush pipes.
In the liner photos for the Detroit Cobras' fourth album, Tied & True, singer Rachel Nagy is always pictured with a half-smoked cigarette extending from between her index and middle fingers, which in this context carries as much cultural import as peroxide hair, Tura Satana measurements, and a crate full of girl-group 45s. In addition to ostensibly producing the delectable rasp in Nagy's vocals, each butt symbolizes the Cobras' debt to a very specific brand of juvenile delinquent cool that favors leather jackets and tender hearts, raw guitars and boozy beats
The Detroit Cobras are an American garage rock band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1994.
Tied & True is a step up for one of the most fun Garage acts out there. The Detroit Cobras have been touring an d playing for a couple of years now. With each album they manage to uncover about a dozen rare R&B gems and turn those into their own. Their strength lies in the up tempo songs. For tied and true that means that "As Long as I have You" (an original for Garnet Mims) or Little Willie John's "Leave My Kitten Alone" become stand out tracks. Yet Tied and True is also the.
Depression because, from this point on, all I can envisage is The Detroit Cobras releasing the same album over and over again with ever diminishing returns, only stumbling upon a truly great song maybe twice an album. Lana Del Rey Paradise. Scott Walker Bish Bosch. Susanne Sundfor The Silicone Veil. Pepe Deluxe Queen of the Wave.
Lyrics - 7 The Detroit Cobras lyrical style is pretty far from ordinary; they include lines that don't particulary mean much, they just make a nice sound! There's no way to quite explain this, you're going to just have to listen to them to understand what I mean. Every song on this album is based on love. There are songs about wanting a certain someone, songs about mistreating your man, and songs about being mistreated by your lover. I just love the impressive guitar riffs and lyrics entering my ears as I listen to the album. Compared to The Detroit Cobras' earlier works, Tied & True seems quite similiar. But each song has got such a soothing yet powerful sound it's irresistable. They're a band that definately need more listening to, it's a crime to miss them out!
