Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981), best known as Joe Louis was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. He reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949, and is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. Nicknamed the "Brown Bomber", Louis' championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 26 championship fights.

Black Joe Lewis’ main influences are classic ‘60s-era soul, funk, and R&B yet Scandalous is much more than a retro experience. No slavish imitator, Lewis adds his sound to a rich tradition with the aid of a powerhouse band and the result is raw and raucous fun. Gritty, chicken-scratch guitars, throbbing bass lines, crisp, funky drumming, and an airtight four-piece horn section back up the feral yowls and mush-mouthed grunts of Lewis.

Right from funky opening title track Everyone Wants a Piece, JLW keeps you on your toes courtesy of lazy slingshot bass riffs, seamless key changes (including one in the first 30 seconds), and clever discordant guitar riffs. Joe Louis Walker is currently on tour through 2018.

Heaters from Joe Lewis's 'Funky Disco' EP on Relief brought back to life on Domina Traxx. In 1990 Joe Lewis teamed up with singer Darryl Goodlett to form the shortlived Survival £. 0. Survival EP 2. Groovin £.

The music on this release was taken without permission from a DAT given to Joe Lewis when he was in the UK in 1995 by Jaime Read. The DAT contained music made during a period when Read was recording at the studios of 10th Planet with Lee Purkis, Chris Hartley and David Manuel (the 3 of whom ran 10th Planet and recorded as Insync vs. Mysteron). An earlier track, titled on this release as "Snoopy Dancin'", was recorded by Read at the studio of Justin David.

Read was keen to have his music released on Relief Records, a label with cult status in the underground UK scene. He gave the DAT to Joe Lewis for the purpose of giving to Relief as potential material for the label. Some time later these tracks appeared on Relief as a Joe Louis release, with no credit to the people who actually produced them. A while later, further material from this DAT was released under Louis/Lewis' name on Joe Lewis - The Beginning And The Ending on Lewis' own Target Records (US) label and on Joe Louis* - Netherlands EP on Basement 282, again with no mention of the actual producers.

10 years later Peacefrog Records in the UK, unaware of the actual origin of the music, released several tracks from these 3 records on a 12" entitled "Joe Lewis - He's Back" and an album entitled "Joe Lewis - The Return Of Joe Lewis".

The track titles shown for the tracks in question were given by Joe Lewis.
